Multi-million investment in Shannon to create 100 jobs

Massive jobs boost for the Shannon Ind Estate as the former AVARA Pharmaceuticals plant which closed in early 2019 due to insolvency is to create up to 100 high-tech jobs in the manufacturing sector. UMR Group acquired the pharmaceutical plant and had been in negotiations to secure a tenant for the premises. This recent announcement of two large firms, OLED University Display Corporation (UDC) and PPG joining forces to facilitate the high demand for energy-efficient, high-performing materials produced for the LED light market. They have entered a long lease with UMR Group to operate from this site. Improvements to the premises and regulatory approvals are due to be complete at the end of 2021 with operations commencing in early 2022. This multi-million euro investment will be of a significant benefit to Shannon and also to the Irish economy in terms of investment and innovation. The announcement is further evidence of IDA Ireland’s continued commitment to employment and investment in regional locations.
