End of Life Vehicle (ELV) Recycling
An ELV is a car or light commercial vehicle that weighs less than 3.5 tonnes. Non-depolluted ELV’s pose a risk to the environment as they contain hazardous materials such as oils, fuels, coolants etc. Our UMR Group premises are permitted Authorised Treatment Facilities (ATF)’s – this means that when you bring your vehicle to use you are ensuring that your End-Of-Life Vehicle is recycled in the most environmentally friendly manner. All registered owners of vehicles are obliged to dispose of their vehicle through an Authorised Treatment Facility (A.T.F). By recycling your vehicle with us you are doing your bit for the environment! ELVs generate between 8 and 9 million tonnes of waste in the European Union annually.
All you need to do is provide us with your vehicle registration certificate (logbook) and our team will take care of all the rest. We will issue you with a Certificate of Destruction (COD) which will de-register your car on the national vehicle database.

What happens your car once it arrives at UMR Group?
- Once the car arrives at our facility the car is weighed, and its weight is recorded. It then enters our custom-built car de-pollution plant.
- Depollution involves the removal of all hazardous items from the vehicle these include tyres, oils, coolants, fuels, batteries etc.
- Tyres removed are transported to a specialist rubber recycler.
- The remaining shell of the vehicle is then put through our crusher machine, where they are reduced to small fragments of metal to be recycled.
- Your old car maybe be even become part of your new car; as a percentage of a new vehicle’s body is manufactured through recycled steel!

Collection of Car : We will call you to arrange a suitable time for pickup, once collected it’s transported back to our licences waste facility for processing and eventually shipped abroad so that the metal is reused – maybe even forming part of your new car.! We have several option for collecting your car so don’t worry.
